Bible Stories for Kids

Twenty-one big adventures that show one big God who saves.

21 days · 10 min/day

A 21-day journey through the most beloved stories of the Bible, written for the whole family to enjoy together. Each day brings a vivid story to life and connects it to the bigger story God is telling — His power, His love, and His rescue of us through Jesus. Perfect for reading aloud, with simple questions kids and grown-ups can answer side by side.

How to use this

Pick a time you already gather — dinner, or just before bed — and keep it there. The whole thing takes about ten minutes.

Each day

  1. Read the passage together. On a busy night, just read the memory verse — that counts.
  2. Read the short devotion out loud.
  3. Talk through the questions. Let everyone answer in their own words; there are no wrong answers.
  4. Say the memory verse together, and try to remember it tomorrow.
  • Take turns being the reader — let the kids have a night.
  • Missed a day or three? That’s okay. Pick the thread back up. It’s a rhythm, not a streak.
  1. Day 1

    God Makes Everything

    Genesis 1:1-25

Before there was anything at all, there was God — and He simply spoke, and the world came to life. Light, sky, oceans, mountains, stars, plants, and animals all appeared because the Lord said the word, and He called it 'good.' Everything you see out the window was made on purpose by a God who is powerful and good. The same God who flung the stars into place is the one who knows your name and cares about your family.

    Talk about it

    • What is one thing God made that you love the most, and why?
    • What does it tell us about God that He could make the whole world just by speaking?
    • How can your family thank God this week for the world He made?

    Memory verse · Genesis 1:1

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

  2. Day 2

    God Makes People

    Genesis 2:7-22

When God made people, He did something special — He shaped the first man from the dust of the ground and breathed life right into him. People aren't just one more animal in the world; we were made by God's own hands and given His breath. He gave the man a beautiful garden and a wife, because God knew it isn't good for us to be alone. You were carefully made by God, and He delights in you and in the family He has placed you in.

    Talk about it

    • How is the way God made people different from the way He made the animals?
    • Why do you think God said it wasn't good for the man to be alone?
    • What is one way your family helps each other not feel alone?

    Memory verse · Genesis 2:7

Yahweh God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

  3. Day 3

    Noah Builds the Ark

    Genesis 6:13-22; Genesis 7:1-5

The world had become full of bad and hurtful things, but God saw Noah, a man who walked closely with Him. God told Noah to build a giant boat so that his family and the animals would be safe from the flood that was coming. It took a lot of trust to keep building that huge ark, but the Bible says Noah did everything 'just as God commanded him.' God still keeps His promises and provides a safe place for those who trust Him — and one day He would send Jesus to rescue us from something even bigger than a flood.

    Talk about it

    • What would have been hard about building the ark when no rain had come yet?
    • What does it mean to obey God 'just as He commanded,' even when it's hard?
    • When is a time your family had to trust God for something you couldn't see yet?

    Memory verse · Genesis 6:22

Thus Noah did. He did all that God commanded him.

  4. Day 4

    Baby Moses

    Exodus 2:1-10

A baby boy named Moses was born at a dangerous time, so his mother hid him in a little basket among the reeds by the river. God was watching over that tiny basket the whole time. The king's own daughter found baby Moses, felt love for him, and even let his real mother help care for him. Even when things looked scary, God was quietly working everything out — and He is still watching over your family today, even when you can't see how.

    Talk about it

    • How do you think Moses' mother felt as she placed him in the basket?
    • Where do you see God taking care of Moses in this story?
    • How does it help you to know God is watching over your family even when things feel scary?

    Memory verse · Exodus 2:10

The child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. She named him Moses, and said, “Because I drew him out of the water.”

  5. Day 5

    Moses and the Burning Bush

    Exodus 3:1-12

One day Moses saw an amazing sight — a bush that was on fire but didn't burn up. It was God, calling Moses to go rescue His people from slavery. Moses felt small and unsure and asked, 'Who am I that I should go?' But God gave him the best promise of all: 'I will be with you.' God often asks us to do things bigger than we feel ready for, but He never sends us alone.

    Talk about it

    • Why do you think Moses felt like he wasn't the right person for the job?
    • What is the most important promise God gave Moses?
    • What is something hard you could do this week, knowing God is with you?

    Memory verse · Exodus 3:12

He said, “Certainly I will be with you. This will be the token to you, that I have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.”

  6. Day 6

    Crossing the Red Sea

    Exodus 14:21-31

God's people were trapped — the sea was in front of them and the army was behind them. But then God did something no one could ever do on their own: He pushed back the waters and made a dry path right through the middle of the sea. The people walked across to safety, and they saw that God had rescued them. When we feel stuck with no way out, God is still able to make a way, because nothing is too hard for Him.

    Talk about it

    • How do you think the people felt walking between two walls of water?
    • What does this story show us about what God can do when there seems to be no way out?
    • When has your family seen God help in a situation that felt impossible?

    Memory verse · Exodus 14:21

Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and Yahweh caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.

  7. Day 7

Joshua and the Walls of Jericho

    Joshua 6:1-20

The city of Jericho had thick, tall walls, and God gave His people a very unusual plan: march around the city, and on the last day, shout. It didn't look like a battle plan at all, but the people trusted and obeyed — and when they shouted, the great walls came crashing down. The victory came from God, not from the strength of the people. God loves to do big things when we trust His ways, even when they don't make sense to us.

    Talk about it

    • Why do you think God's plan to win the city was so unusual?
    • Who really brought the walls down — the people or God?
    • When is it hard to obey God even though you don't fully understand His plan?

    Memory verse · Joshua 6:20

So the people shouted and the priests blew the trumpets. When the people heard the sound of the trumpet, the people shouted with a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight in front of him, and they took the city.

  8. Day 8

    Gideon's Small Army

    Judges 7:1-22

Gideon had an army to fight a huge enemy, but God kept sending soldiers home until only three hundred were left. Why? So everyone would know the victory came from God, not from a big army. With just torches, jars, and trumpets, that tiny group watched God win the battle for them. We don't have to be the strongest or have the most to see God work — He delights to use the small and weak so that He gets the glory.

    Talk about it

    • Why did God want Gideon's army to be so small?
    • What does this story teach us about where real strength comes from?
    • How can your family trust God even when you feel small or outnumbered?

    Memory verse · Judges 7:7

Yahweh said to Gideon, “By the three hundred men who lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into your hand. Let all the other people go, each to his own place.”

  9. Day 9

    Ruth's Loyalty

    Ruth 1:14-18; Ruth 2:1-12

After a sad season of loss, a young woman named Ruth refused to leave her mother-in-law Naomi, saying, 'Where you go I will go.' She chose love and loyalty even when life was hard, and she trusted Naomi's God to be her God too. As Ruth worked humbly in the fields, a kind man named Boaz noticed her and cared for her. God was gently watching over Ruth, and He weaves kindness and faithfulness into our families' stories too.

    Talk about it

    • What did Ruth give up to stay with Naomi?
    • How did God take care of Ruth as she trusted Him?
    • What is one way you can show loyal love to your family this week?

    Memory verse · Ruth 1:16

Ruth said, “Don’t urge me to leave you, and to return from following you, for where you go, I will go; and where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people, and your God my God.

  10. Day 10

    Samuel Hears God

    1 Samuel 3:1-10

Young Samuel was sleeping in God's house when he heard a voice calling his name in the night. At first he didn't realize it was God, but once he understood, he answered, 'Speak, for your servant is listening.' God still speaks to us today through His Word, the Bible, and He loves when we come ready to listen. Even children are never too young for God to know them and call them by name.

    Talk about it

    • Why do you think it took Samuel a few tries to know it was God calling him?
    • What does it mean to say, 'Speak, for your servant is listening'?
    • How can your family slow down and listen to God this week?

    Memory verse · 1 Samuel 3:10

Yahweh came, and stood, and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak; for your servant hears.”

  11. Day 11

    David and Goliath

    1 Samuel 17:32-50

Goliath was a giant, and everyone was afraid of him — everyone except a young shepherd named David. David wasn't brave because he was big or strong; he was brave because he knew his big God. He said the battle belonged to the Lord, and with one small stone, God brought the giant down. Whatever 'giants' your family faces, you can be brave like David by remembering how great our God really is.

    Talk about it

    • Where did David's courage really come from?
    • What 'giants' or big worries might your family face right now?
    • How does knowing God is bigger than our problems help us be brave?

    Memory verse · 1 Samuel 17:47

and that all this assembly may know that Yahweh doesn’t save with sword and spear; for the battle is Yahweh’s, and he will give you into our hand.”

  12. Day 12

Elijah and the Prophets of Baal

    1 Kings 18:30-39

Elijah wanted everyone to see that the Lord is the one true God, so he set up an altar, soaked it with water, and prayed. Then God sent fire from heaven that burned up everything — and the people fell down and cried, 'The Lord, He is God!' There is only one true God, and He is real, powerful, and worthy of all our worship. Like Elijah, we can pray boldly, trusting that our God hears and answers.

    Talk about it

    • Why do you think Elijah poured water all over the altar first?
    • What did the people learn about who the real God is?
    • What is something big your family could pray boldly about, trusting God to hear?

    Memory verse · 1 Kings 18:39

When all the people saw it, they fell on their faces. They said, “Yahweh, he is God! Yahweh, he is God!”

  13. Day 13

    Daniel in the Lions' Den

    Daniel 6:16-23

Daniel loved God so much that he kept praying even when a law said he couldn't, so he was thrown into a den of hungry lions. But God sent an angel to shut the lions' mouths, and in the morning Daniel was completely safe. Daniel trusted God whether things were easy or hard, and God was faithful to him. We can stay faithful to God too, knowing He is with us even in the scariest places.

    Talk about it

    • Why did Daniel keep praying even when it was against the rules?
    • How did God protect Daniel in the lions' den?
    • What is one way you can stay faithful to God even when it's not easy?

    Memory verse · Daniel 6:22

My God has sent his angel, and has shut the lions’ mouths, and they have not hurt me; because as before him innocence was found in me; and also before you, O king, I have done no harm.”

  14. Day 14

    Jonah and the Big Fish

    Jonah 1:1-17; Jonah 2:10

God told Jonah to go tell the city of Nineveh about Him, but Jonah ran the other way and got on a boat. When a great storm came, Jonah ended up in the sea — and God sent a big fish to swallow him and keep him safe. Inside the fish, Jonah prayed and turned back to God, who gave him a second chance. God is patient and full of mercy, and He never gives up on us, even when we run away.

    Talk about it

    • Why do you think Jonah tried to run away from God?
    • How did God show mercy to Jonah even after he disobeyed?
    • When have you needed a second chance, and how did someone show you grace?

    Memory verse · Jonah 1:17

Yahweh prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

  15. Day 15

    Baby Jesus is Born

    Luke 2:1-20

On the most wonderful night, Jesus, the Son of God, was born in a small town and laid in a manger where animals fed. Angels filled the sky and told shepherds the good news of great joy: a Savior had been born for everyone. God Himself came into the world as a baby because He loved us and came to rescue us. This is the best gift of all — God did not stay far away but came close to save us.

    Talk about it

    • Why do you think the angels called Jesus' birth 'good news of great joy'?
    • What does it tell us about God that He came as a tiny baby?
    • How can your family share the good news of Jesus with someone this week?

    Memory verse · Luke 2:11

For there is born to you today, in David’s city, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

  16. Day 16

    Jesus Calms the Storm

    Mark 4:35-41

Jesus and His friends were in a boat when a fierce storm blew in, and the disciples were terrified. But Jesus simply stood up and said, 'Peace! Be still,' and the wind and waves obeyed Him at once. The disciples were amazed — even the storm listens to Jesus! Because Jesus is God, He has power over everything that frightens us, and we can bring our biggest fears to Him.

    Talk about it

    • How do you think the disciples felt before and after Jesus calmed the storm?
    • What does it tell us about Jesus that the wind and waves obeyed Him?
    • What 'storms' or worries can your family bring to Jesus today?

    Memory verse · Mark 4:39

He awoke, and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” The wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

  17. Day 17

    Jesus Feeds 5,000 People

    John 6:1-14

A huge crowd was hungry, and all they could find was one boy's lunch — just five loaves of bread and two little fish. But Jesus took that small lunch, gave thanks, and shared it until every single person was full, with baskets of food left over. Jesus cared about people's everyday needs, and He can do amazing things with what little we offer Him. When you give what you have to Jesus, He can do far more with it than you ever imagined.

    Talk about it

    • How do you think the boy felt when Jesus used his small lunch?
    • What does this story show us about how Jesus cares for people?
    • What is something small you could offer to Jesus to be used for good?

    Memory verse · John 6:11

Jesus took the loaves; and having given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to those who were sitting down; likewise also of the fish as much as they desired.

  18. Day 18

    Jesus Walks on Water

    Matthew 14:22-33

In the middle of the night, the disciples saw Jesus walking toward them on top of the water! Peter even stepped out and walked too, but when he looked at the wind and waves instead of Jesus, he began to sink — and Jesus quickly reached out and caught him. When we keep our eyes on Jesus, He helps us do what feels impossible, and even when we start to sink, He is right there to catch us. Jesus is always close, and His hand is strong to hold us.

    Talk about it

    • What happened when Peter looked at the waves instead of at Jesus?
    • What does it mean to 'keep our eyes on Jesus' in everyday life?
    • When you start to feel afraid, how can you remember that Jesus is near?

    Memory verse · Matthew 14:31

Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand, took hold of him, and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”

  19. Day 19

    The Good Samaritan

    Luke 10:30-37

Jesus told a story about a man who was hurt on the side of the road, and several people walked right past him. But one man, a Samaritan, stopped, took care of him, and made sure he was safe — even though it cost him time and money. Jesus used this story to show us what real love looks like: helping people, even strangers, the way we'd want to be helped. Because God has shown us so much mercy, we can show His kindness to everyone around us.

    Talk about it

    • What did the Good Samaritan do that the others would not?
    • Who are the people around you that might need help right now?
    • What is one kind thing your family could do for someone this week?

    Memory verse · Luke 10:33

But a certain Samaritan, as he traveled, came where he was. When he saw him, he was moved with compassion,

  20. Day 20

    The Lost Sheep

    Luke 15:1-7

Jesus told about a shepherd who had a hundred sheep, and when just one wandered off, he left the others to go searching until he found it. When he carried it home, he was so happy that he threw a party! Jesus told this story to show how much God loves each person and how He comes looking for us when we are lost. You are never just one in a crowd to God — He treasures you, and there is great joy in heaven when someone comes home to Him.

    Talk about it

    • How do you think the lost sheep felt when the shepherd found it?
    • What does this story teach us about how much God loves each person?
    • How does it feel to know God comes looking for you when you wander?

    Memory verse · Luke 15:6

When he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’

  21. Day 21

    Jesus is Alive!

    Matthew 28:1-10

On the first Easter morning, some women went to Jesus' tomb, but the stone was rolled away and an angel told them wonderful news: 'He is not here; he has risen!' Jesus had truly died for our sins, and now He was alive again, just as He promised. This is the greatest news in the whole world — because Jesus is alive, everyone who trusts in Him can have new life and be part of God's family forever. Jesus rose from the dead, and that changes everything!

    Talk about it

    • How do you think the women felt when they heard Jesus was alive?
    • Why is it the best news of all that Jesus rose from the dead?
    • How can your family celebrate that Jesus is alive, not just at Easter but every day?

    Memory verse · Matthew 28:6

He is not here, for he has risen, just like he said. Come, see the place where the Lord was lying.
